Che Lagarto Hostels presents three accommodation options for your stay in Rio de Janeiro, all featuring our distinguishing quality level. The two hottest beaches in Rio de Janeiro are Copacabana –popularized by several songs and movies– and Ipanema –which also enjoys worldwide fame, and receives thousands of visitors daily.

Copacabana beach is located in the homonymous neighborhood, within a splendorous four-kilometer long bay, carpeted by white sands and calm waters, except at the shore, where huge waves can be usually seen. The Copacabana neighborhood stretches along the coast and it is some ten blocks deep. Upon the hills, buildings are replaced by favelas, picturesque shantytowns which might prove dangerous should one not take the necessary precautions.

Our two Copacabana hostels are strategically located 300 meters from the seashore, right in the middle of the bay, in the calm, safe Peixoto neighborhood. Our hostel in Ipanema sits in the homonymous neighborhood, between the beautiful Ipanema beaches, at the east, and the Lagoa (Portuguese word meaning lake), at the west. Ipanema is a straight, 3-kilometer long beach, narrower than Copacabana, and with slightly rougher waters. The neighborhood is also long and narrow. Extending for 7 blocks between the beach and the Lagoa, the neighborhood of Ipanema is more expensive and aristocratic than Copacabana.



Its greater safety and cleanliness, along with its superb restaurants, bars, pubs and discos render it costly, yet worth the extra bucks. Our hostel is situated 50 meters from the seashore, in the finest area in town, and it is surrounded by restaurant and bars.
