We are in front of the main beach of Salvador, Barra beach, located at a strategic point on Oceânica avenue less than a minute to reach the sea, next to everything and we have the best panoramic view of Salvador seashore .
Che Lagarto Hostel is 5 minutes walking distance from Barra lighthouse, one of the main referral touristic point of Salvador. We also are 2 minutes walking distance from the Christ hill, 3 minutes walking to Barra shopping center and 15 minutes by bus of historical center (Pelourinho)

TOURS
- Praia do Forte: departing time: 08 a.m. We leave the hostel on the way to lake of Abaeté, we follow to fort beach where we know Tamar project (marine turtles, fishers village and shopping) and to end we go to Guarajuba beach to have lunch. Time to return to the hostel is at 18 p.m. Price BLR 60,00
- Morro de São Paulo Island: departure time: 07 a.m. The trip to Morro de São Paulo, on Tinharé Island, it is held by boat, travel bus and speed boat and it takes around three hours. In Morro de São Paulo Island it is paid an environmental tax of BRL 7,00 on its entrance. Here it is possible to hire a boat trip, go down on the highest tyroleon of Brazil, scuba diving , go on kayaking, ride on horse back. This place has calm and transparent water, natural pools, creating a natural paradise. The landscape are beautiful, where it is possible see the Dendê coast.
The return time is at 15:30hrs, it gets to Salvador at 18:30hrs. It costs 170,00
- Frades & Itaparica Islands: Departure times: 07hrs. During the first boat trip the first way takes 45 minutes, when it arrives on Frades Island where only 60 inhabitants exists. After two hours, we travel again for more 01 hour and 10 minutes by boat up to Itaparica Island where we have a nice lunch of typical food of Bahia (not included on price). On the boat there are a samba group and are sold caipirinha drinks for very cheap prices, fruits are offered free. Return time: 18hrs. Price BRL 60,00.
- Panoramic: Price: BRL 60,00. Duration of tour: 03hours. Time: 9-12am or 2-5pm. The tour starts in Saint Antônio of Barra Fortress, more known as Barra lighthouse. One goes round the Tororó lagoon, where floats the Orixás statues made of carved metals to honor the most important Candomblé gods, afro-brazilian religion. Follow the way up to the low city passing
through seaport zone and crossing the excited Calçada commercial neighborhood, where one see the beautiful building of the railway station, where the trains leaves to the suburb. Next to Roma square and the ancient hospital and shelter Saint Antonio. After that we take the way to Nossa Senhora da Conceição where in January it is celebrated the big honor to the protector in a walk of 08 kilometers, it strarts from the church. - Historic: Price: BRL 60,00. Duration of tour: 3 hours. Times: 9-12am or 2-5pm. The itinerary is part of the Barra Lighthouse, entrance portal to all saints bay where the nautic museum is placed. Ahead, the Jesus Yard and Pelourinho streets, The biggest barroco set arquitecture of the Americas, they are opened as a magic passport to the past, like you were there, alive, the scenery and characters of Jorge Amado Literature. A lot of bars, restaurants, and handicraft stores and precious stones are a constant invitation to whom wants to admire and take home a bit of Bahia. Visit to San Francisco Church – “The golden Church” – and the Basílica Cathedral, and to end a walk on Pelourinho large. Regress to hostel.
- Candomblé: BRL 60,00. We leave the hostel at 7pm and we go to a away neighborhood of the capital where it is celebrated the Candoblé, ceremony of BRL 60,00. Cult to the orixás, it is one of the afro-brazilian mainly practiced in Brasil by so-called people of the saint. About 3 million of Brazilians (1,5% of the total population) they declare the candoblé as their religion. It is a beautiful show turned to the tourist. We get back to the hostel at 08pm.
- Bahia by Night: Price: BRL 140,00. Leave the hostel before 7pm and come back at 11pm. You will feel the Bahia night enchantment and watch an authentic show with puxada de rede, samba de roda, maculelê, e Capoeira. The dinner is a buffet with delicious typical food.
• Things to do with a few money and free
Gerônimo is a bahian Singer who presents his show in Carmo stairs (Pelourinho) every Tuesdays from 07pm. It is free.
Jazz MAM it is located on Contorno Avenue in Modern Art Museum. Every Saturdays from 06pm until 09pm for BRL 5,00.
Sankofa bar is located in Pelourinho and it is recommended on Tuesdays nights with Trópicalia band (salsa and merengue) and on Saturdays with Magary band (black samba) it costs BRL 10,00 and begin from 11pm.
Every Tuesday in Pelourinho there are percussion bands in the most parts of historic center playing their musics, with local people. Free.
Galícia Bar Samba happens every Tuesdays and Sarturdays, It starts at 19pm, it is located in Pelourinho and it is free.
Twits Pub it is located in Rio Vermelho and it is open from 07pm, but the music start at 9pm. On Mondays and Tuesdays it costs BRL 6,00 and Adré Bala DJ is the one who shakes the disco.
Maria João Bar is located in Pituba and during the week there are many type of bands/DJ´s (axé, samba, rock, pop etc.). The price for women is BRL 10,00 and for men it costs BRL 20,00. the party start around 10pm.
Boomerangue disco is located in Rio Vermelho and during the week there are many types of band/DJ’s (electronic sound, samba, rock, pop etc.). The price for women is BRL 10,00 and for men it costs BRL 15,00. The party start around 11pm.
Yard of Cravinho Samba bar is located in Pelourinho, every day there is a samba band playing, it costs BRL 3,00 and start from 7pm.
There are many samba bands in Tereza Batista Square on Tuesdays and Saturdays it is free from 08pm. It located in Pelourinho and it is free.
Tarrafas disco is located in Rio Vermelho and it is recommended on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The party attraction is salsa, pop, rock etc. It starts about 9pm and costs BRL 10,00 and 15,00.
The Ciranda Café, Culture and Arts is located in Rio Vermelho and it is recommended on Fridays and Saturdays with attraction that play mpb, pop, etc. The party start about 9pm and it costs BRL 10,00.
Capella Music Bar is located in Rio Vermelho and it is recommended on Fridays and Saturdays, where there are many bands of pop, rock, bossa nova which show costs BRL 15,00 from 9pm.
Moema disco is located in Rio Vermelho and during the week there are many types of singers (mpb, rock and pop). The price for women is BRL 10,00 and for men it costs BRL 20,00. The parties start about 10pm.
What to do at night:
o Where eat and have drink
In Rio Vermelho Square it is found Dinha Acarajé, she died, but left her child care about of the business, no doubt it is the best Acarajé of town. Price BRL 4,00.
Steak house Fogo de Chão. Address: Praça Colombo 4, Rio Vermelho. One of the best steak house of Salvador and only ten minutes by táxi.
Axego Restaurant. Address : Rua João de Deus 1, 1º andar – Pelourinho. Although it is in Pelourinho, the neighborhood is the most tourist spot of town, the restaurant is very much visited for solteropolitanos (person who was born is Salvador). The nice couple owner of the restaurant, Manuel and Lia Pereira, command the the kitchen and the treatment closely. One of the most ordered dish is the Aratu moqueca.
La Luppa restaurant. Address: Av. Sete de Setembro, 3157 – Ladeira da Barra. They serve different kind of spaghetti, like strozzapretti a pappardelle. On Sundays, from 6pm, the conventional menu takes place to the pizzas one. The disserts, like panacota and tiramisu, they are made like at home, made in their own confectionary.
Babagula restaurant. Av. Ótavio Mangbeira , 7689 – Pituaçu. Among the unusual of a varied buffet there is sushi, strogonoff, cod and paella. Buffalo rump and baby-beef make part of caster. One of the walls is covered with pictures of famous clients.
o Where to go to dance
Bohemia Music Bar it is located in Jardim Brasil (Barra) and each day of the week there are many bands playing samba, axé, forró etc. Most of the times it starts at 7pm and end only when the last client goes home, there are always promotion of Caipirinhas and double beer.
Trindade Music bar it is located in Pituba and each day of the week there are many bands playing samba, axé, forró etc. Most of the times it starts at 7pm and end when the last client goes home.
Madrre it is located in pituba and each day of the week there are bands and many dj’s playing funk, samba, axé, forró etc. It starts most of the time at 9pm and end only when the last client goes home.
Borracharia bar. Address: street Conselheiro Pedro Luis 101 A, Rio Vermelho. The local coincides to the name, because during the day it really is a tire fixer. At night instead of fix and change tires, the partners command the electronic disco lively by the DJs as Roger Hal, who plays at the place since its inauguration in 2004. The decor displays works of many local artists on canvas, sculptures, photographs and wall paints. Among drinks, there is the life search (R$ 4,00), it is a mixture of spirit, lemon and honey, and caned beer (skol, R$ 3,00). To solve the dawn hunger, the kitchen prepares shrimp soup, seafood soup like octopus (R$ 7,00 each one) and sandwich like cheese salad (R$ 6,00).
Suggestion and recommendation
We recommend that women bring bikinis, dresses, t-shirts, sandals and light clothing in general. Men must bring swimwear, shorts, pants and closed shoes (sneakers) to go out at night, t-shirt and flip-flop.
Salvador does not have very well defined season, but it usually rains a lot between April and July and during the year it is warm, being over intensive between November and March. During the day it is sunny and very much humid at night and it is very nice.
We advise our guests to bring padlock and towel, despite we sell and rent it, respectively and depend on the period that he comes to Salvador it is interesting have their own umbrella.
Internal Transfers
Pira do Forte – Salvador
The bus costs BRL 8,00, the trip spend one hour and thirty minutes and the final stop is in the bus station.
Morro de São Paulo – Salvador (Buying the tickets at Che Lagarto)
1ª - The catamarã costs about BRL 80,00 and BRL 90,00 with a transfer to the harbor of Salvador until Che Lagarto already included and the trip takes two hours.
2ª - One takes a speed boat from Morro de São Paulo until Ponta do Curral for twelve minutes, after a bus until Bom Despacho for one hour and fifteen minutes around and after that about thirty minutes until Ferry Terminal of Salvador. The transfer until Che Lagarto it is included on price. The price is about BRL 75,00 and 80,00
Itacaré -Salvador
The bus leaves daily, it costs about BRL 55,00, the trip takes six hours and the final stop is in the bus station.
Lençóis (Chapada Diamantina) – Salvador
The bus leave daily, it costs between BRL 75,00 and 90,00, the trip takes eight hours and the final stop is in the bus station.
Aeroporto – Che Lagarto:
There is an air conditioner bus named Praça da Sé that costs R$ 4,00 and the trip takes about 1:20 and the person must ask for stop between Christ hill and Barravento restaurant, we are located on the opposite side of the street. This bus passes about every forty minutes.
Rodoviária – Che Lagarto:
There are three options bus to get to Che Lagarto leaving the bus station.
1ª - Vale dos Rios Step – R3 you take on Transbordo station of shopping Iguatemi, it costs BRL 2,30, it has a path of about an hour , and the person must ask for stop between Christ hill and Barravento restaurant, we are located on the opposite side of the street. This bus passes about every twenty minutes.
2ª - Lapa/ Barra you take in the station next to the bus station, it costs BRL 2,30, it has a path of about 50 minutes and the person must ask for stop next to Perini, when you take the street in front of Perini the person will find the seashore of Barra, we are located between Christ hill and Barravento restaurant. There is a long frequency of these buses.
3ª - Barra you take in the station next to the bus station, it costs BRL 2,30, it has a path of about 50 minutes and the person must ask for stop in front of shopping Barra and go to the street of the seashore, we are located between Christ hill and Barravento restaurant. This bus passes about every twenty minutes.
